Checkout Best Practices

This page provides the checkout best practices for implementations from 20 November 2026 onwards. For existing integrations and current implementations, see Best Practice: Checkout.

How to Present Riverty in Checkout

Optimised for conversion

To ensure Riverty performs optimal in your checkout, please follow these best practice on how to present Riverty payment methods in your checkout.

From 20 November 2026, Riverty payment methods in scope of CCD2 need to be implemented using Riverty Hosted Checkout.

With Hosted Checkout, Riverty handles the required payment method specific information and legal requirements. Merchants only need to display the payment method name, tagline and logo in their checkout and redirect the customer to Hosted Checkout.

If you are using the ‘Get available payment methods’ API call you do not have to implement these best practice yourself. This API call makes sure you are always using the most recent version and keeps your checkout automatically updated.

If you are not using the ‘Get available payment methods’ API call, use the below best practices for displaying Riverty payment methods. These guidelines ensure you provide customers with an optimal user experience and an optimised checkout conversion rate.

Usage of the Riverty Badge in the Checkout

As a crucial element of our branding, the Riverty Badge should always be used consistently across various channels. It will build stronger brand awareness with your customers when selecting Riverty as their payment method.

While we recommend using the new Primary Riverty Badge with its updated dimensions, we understand that some merchants may have strict checkout guidelines that prevent this. In such cases, you can use the Secondary Riverty Badge in its original dimensions.

When implementing the Riverty Badge, make sure you are using the provided URL and not downloading the image. The Riverty Badges are hosted on a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to ensure the best performance and availability for your website.

Best practice examples

Adding a tagline to the Riverty payment method in checkout has shown to lead to higher conversion rates. We therefore recommend adding the tagline to your checkout.

The recommended payment method name and tagline differ by payment method and market. Please use the examples below.

14 day Invoice

Upon receipt the customer has 14 days to pay their 14 day invoice.

Achteraf betalen Betaal in 14 dagen

Best practice for DACH

Important: 14 day Invoice in Germany is different from 14 day Invoice in other markets.

The German 14 day Invoice can benefit from a specific CCD2 exemption. Because of this exemption, the payment method is presented differently from the standard Riverty 14 day Invoice experience.

The payment option should be presented as a merchant-offered payment method rather than as a Riverty credit product.

The merchant branding should remain dominant. “Powered by Riverty” is an optional supporting reference that provides transparency and helps customers recognise that Riverty is involved in the payment experience and may provide supporting features or services.

Hosted Checkout

After selecting a Riverty payment method, the customer is redirected to Riverty Hosted Checkout.
Hosted Checkout handles:

  • Required consumer information: If the merchant doesn't provide the consumer's date of birth and phone number in the request, Hosted Checkout asks the consumer for them. Note that asking for this information inside the checkout can affect conversion, so we recommend passing it directly where possible.
  • Payment method specific information.
  • Required legal information: Riverty hosts and displays its own terms and conditions and privacy policy, so merchants no longer need to show these in their checkout. Riverty also takes care of any other consumer-facing information, such as the Code of Conduct (Netherlands).
  • CCD2 credit onboarding: Hosted Checkout facilitates the CCD2 credit onboarding journey where applicable.
  • Security and fraud prevention measures.

Merchants only need to display the payment method name, tagline and logo in their checkout.
